Unlocking Futures Through The College Center: Building Student Confidence for Post-Secondary Education

Fostering a strong college-going culture is essential for providing access to four-year universities for students from underrecognized populations. At Sylmar Biotech Health and Engineering Magnet, many students are first-generation college-goers who need additional support to navigate the complex college admissions process. Despite their qualifications, these students face significant barriers that result in low application, commitment, and completion rates for post-secondary education.
Our project aims to increase the number of underrecognized students meeting the requirements for admission to four-year universities. Many qualified students do not pursue post-secondary education due to a lack of confidence, resources, and support systems. To address these challenges, we propose systemic changes within schools, targeted support programs, mentorship opportunities, and informational workshops designed to enhance student confidence and readiness for college. Preliminary data indicates our approach increases college application rates by 20% and significantly improves student confidence in navigating the college application process.
"Unlocking Futures Through The College Center: Building Student Confidence for Post-Secondary Education" is essential for providing students with access to higher education, ultimately enhancing their economic mobility and future prospects.
