What Does an “A-” Mean Anyway?: Rethinking Grading with an Equity and Competency-Based Approach

Talking about grading, especially in secondary schools, is rarely done and thus individual teachers often determine their own methods and strategies for providing students with grades. What if we shifted our mindset about what grades communicate to students? What if we adopted a competency-based approach that is more equitable, accurate, and bias-resistant?
