Equity And Access Through Technology Education

Ana Laura Garcia Cahn Fellow 2023

According to the California K–12 Computer Science Standards, Adopted by the California State Board of Education in August 2018, Computer Science must be included as a core subject for every student in Kindergarten through Grade Twelve. A Framework for Culturally Responsive-Sustaining CS Education highlights Computer Science (CS) as computational literacy critical for all students. It identifies equitable access to Computer Science education as a critical national priority to eliminate racial and economic disparities. In addition, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has committed to providing Computer Science education for all students by 2025, ensuring every student receives 20 hours of CS instruction each year from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Therefore, Maywood students should have opportunities to develop Computer Science skills in our increasingly digital world. Join Maywood Elementary School as we take you through our journey in providing equity and access to Computer Science teaching and learning.
