Through the Looking Glass: Uncovering Individual Identities to Strengthen Community

Danielle Salzberg Cahn Fellow 2020

What happens when a small school in the largest education system in the United States looks in the mirror and finds those things that must be changed? Our students are mirrors that reveal all our imperfections and challenge us to confront the systemic racism that impedes student achievement; they reflect back to us our biases and expose our inconsistencies. Our project looks at how as leaders we can help our team explore some of the truths we’d prefer to overlook. What – if anything – can two white female leaders isolated by a pandemic and watching the world burn do as leaders to support our community to work through implicit biases and develop a more culturally responsive and sustaining oasis of school culture?
