Creating a Culture and Climate to Foster Belonging to Impact Student Achievement Through Dispositional Learning

Melissa Donath Cahn Fellow 2020

As Public School 22 worked through the pandemic looking for different ways to unify staff and student, there became a need for a plan that focused on fostering a climate and culture of belonging that would ultimately impact student achievement. Through the use of different data collection methods and feedback, such as student and staff surveys, interviews and professional book clubs, the school began to create an action plan that would carry out a focus of belonging through  the dignity dispositions. Re-establishing a climate and culture of belonging amongst students, families, staff, and administration is at the core of the work. This project has set forth methods and actions needed to rebuild and reimagine our school community.
