Leveraging Peer Coaching to Improve Teachers’ Professional Practice

Antonio Acevedo Cahn Fellow 2019

The focus of this project was to increase our teachers’ capacity in serving as peer coaches to each other in the area of Dual Language Education, the primary focus of our school’s curriculum, vision, and mission. Through a series of professional development sessions within a cycle of learning, teachers learned about and practiced various aspects of peer coaching. Afterwards a pilot group of teachers engaged in peer coaching cycles using the skills they learned and reported on their level of comfort and knowledge of peer coaching. Survey data showed these experiences led to a greater sense of comfort with the various stages of peer coaching.
