The Silver Lining- Building Trust in a Time of Crisis

Grisel Rodriguez Cahn Fellow 2019

At P.S.82Q The Hammond School, we pride ourselves on developing the whole child, while building positive and trusting relationships with students and families. As a school we have always worked to provide our students with access to a rigorous, supportive and collaborative learning environment; however, despite our many strengths, there was “an elephant in the room” which could no longer be ignored. The school’s culture was in a negative place and the dissension was impeding our ability to progress as a collaborative unit. The level of trust between administration and teachers was something that needed to be addressed and enhanced in order to provide students with continued success, leaving us to ponder the question, how can we build the trust between administration and faculty in order to improve the academic performance of our students?
